After considerting a number of titles nominated by University of New Haven faculty, students, and staff, the Common Read 2012 Committee chose Double Take: A Memoir by Kevin Michael Connolly. The Committee was seeking books that allow for meaningful issues to be raised, were thematically rich, have interesting characters, promote reading as a pleasurable activity, are hopeful and upbeat, and can be discussed across many academic disciplines. Double Take: A Memoir fit the fill in each of these criteria. This book was the unanimous choise of students who read the book. The Commitee choose this book because of its fcus on difference, independence, transitions, familty relationships and resilience.
Double Take: A Memoir is rich with possibilities for discussion and programming across campus and in the local community. The book will be distributed to students during SOAR and will be an integral part of the Freshman Seminar and E105.
All UNH faculty, students and staff are encourage to read Double Take: A Memoir, attend convocation and other scheduled events and engage in discussion aroung the important issues of the book.
